I asked my question awhile ago, why didn't it get answered?
We get in several questions per month and we only have one person (Gypsy) who answers them. They first get checked for spelling errors with a program, and then sent to Gypsy to be answered. She then answers the question to the best of her abilities. If the question needs research, it sometimes can take as much as a week or more to track down web sites with the answer to some of the questions asked to her. Then when she is done the questions are sent to me to be hand typed onto the web site, while editing out all but the name, age, question and answer for each person from the information I got. Each question submitted takes in all about 1-5 hours spent on each, on average with everything from the time we get it, to the time it makes it to the site. Which is why, we only do updates once a month, on the first of the month. If your question is asked at the beginning of the month, you can expect to see it posted on the site on the first of the following month. That's how it works. You have to remember that there is only two people who actually work on the site constuction itself, myself and gypsy. Everyone else are moderators for the message board.
How do you make a diaper out of things around the house?
We have several people out there who doesn't have the money to buy diapers to keep the bed dry. We have suggested to use things around the house to make a makeshift diaper to use until you are able to get some diapers or Goodnites/Underjams. We actually located a video that someone did on how to make a diaper out of a towel, a 13 gallon kitchen bad (the white ones), and a pair of underwear or boxers (to hold everything up). The video is located at: http://s143.photobucket.com/albums/r140/
How can you make yourself wet the bed?
We don't recommend any artificial means to wet. So I will say this- drink a lot of fluids, go to bed and wait for the flood gates to open.
Where can I buy plastic sheets for the bed and how much do they cost?
You can purchase them at a drug stores/pharmacies, some department stores like Walmart and Target and even some regular retail stores have them. The prices can range from about $10.00 US and up.
How do I tell my mom I wet the bed?
Be honest and tell her you have a problem. Have her take you to a doctor to rule out any medical problem that could be causing it. In gypsy's case- her son had an immature bladder and he eventually grew out of it. On average most people out grow a small bladder at around 16 years old.
How can I tell my mom I want to try diapers?
Most parents are not open to the idea. Unless your Mom is a open, receptive person I wouldn't say anything.
Are diapers the common use for bed wetting? Is there another product to use instead?
There are a few things- cutting back on fluids before bed, using a bed wetting alarm, and medications are the other options to diapers. For persistent wetting diapers are the easiest way to go. If you don't like diapers, you could try bed wetting pants such as Goodnites (the underwear ones, the boxers type leak) or Underjams.
What are the symptoms of a kidney or bladder infection?
Frequent urination that is painful. perhaps an odor to the urine are common for a urinary infection. A kidney infection is very painful and is internal. Both needs a doctors intervention.
How long is it safe to stay in a wet diaper before risking a rash?
I would not stay in a wet diaper for more than an hour or two if you wet during the day. If overnite, try to change within a hour or so of getting up. Preferably change as quick as possible.
When will I stop wetting the bed?
No one can answer that- only your body knows.
Will you send me diapers for free?
Sorry, we are just two people who run a site. We own no diaper store/factory. We are both on disability and have a limited income. So we are not in a position to do so. Sorry.
How can I get diapers without my parents knowing?
You can either save up money and purchase them and hide them or purchase on-line and have them sent to a person you trust.
What can you do to protect against leaks?
You would need to find a diaper that suits your needs. You might need to use diaper inserts/soakers. I know of some people that use size 6-7 baby diapers with several small slits down the plastic backing (to let the urine flow through to the diaper under it) inserted in their diaper to absorb more. If you don't mind the extra work, you can try cloth diapers as a booster. Walmart sells Gerber toddler size cloth diapers for $12.00 for a 12 diapers. 2 seem good for day time use, and 3-4 for overnight works out well to prevent leaks. If you use cloth diapers, make sure you wash them before the 4th day otherwise they will begin to grow mold. Or perhaps you need a diaper with a more form fitted leg. Try different brands and see which works for you. Uniquebreifs and Dry247 say they are able to hold as much as 2 liters of urine. So you might look into upgrading to a more absorbant diaper.
What is the best method for getting rid of diaper rash?
You need to change often, clean well and dry well. Use a diaper ointment like Balmex or Desitin. And try to get as much time out of diapers as you can and let the air help clear it up. Make sure you sit on a absorbant mat/pad if you feel you might have an accident.
How do you know if you have diaper rash?
You will know! The area will be red and very painful. Diaper rash is in actuality an acid burn from the acids in urine.
I have a hard time pinning on my own cloth diapers. What is the best way to pin on a cloth diaper by yourself?
If you have problems with reaching your sides you should try the triangle method. Fold your diaper into a triangle- one point goes between the legs with the other points going around each side. They will all meet together right in front by the belly button area. Pull tight and pin.
What is the best way to fold a cloth diaper?
There are a few ways. One way is to fold into thirds and then open up each side like wings leaving the center still folded ( it will look like a hour glass) Another way is to make a triangle shape- bringing one point up through the legs and the other two points around the sides to meet by your belly button.
What is the best disposable diaper?
We have gotten good reviews on the Uniquebriefs, Dry247 and the Molicare. But you need to sample the brands and see which works for you. Most on-line stores have sample packs- try one and see what works for you.
What age should someone be to start changing or putting on their own diapers without parents or siblings help?
Whatever age you are able to do so. Some can do it as early as age 7 others not until later. It all depends on you- there is no right or wrong age.
My mom diapers me 24/7, how do I tell her I don’t feel comfortable with her diapering me?
Be honest with her and tell her that. Suggest she let you have a trial period say over a weekend and if you do okay then she'll know you can do it yourself and not have to worry.
How do I get my mom/dad/brother/sister to stop diapering me?
Let them know you are uncomfortable with them doing it. Tell them you can do it yourself. Honesty is usually the best policy.
Which is better, cloth or disposable diapers?
Them is fighting words! :) They both have advantages and disadvantages. Cloth is better for the skin- it allows the skin to breath. But cloth can be a pain if out and about with storage of soiled diapers being one issue. Disposables wins hands down for convenience and no worry about washing just throw away and on you go, but they can be expensive in the long term. You need to access your situation and see which works better in your lifestyle.
My diaper is leaking, what can I do about it?
Many people have had this problem. One suggestion is to buy a pack of size 6-7 baby diapers. Take a knife or razor blade and cut several small 1/2 inch cuts through the plastic or cloth like outer cover so the pee can run through into your adult/youth diaper. Or if you can find them easily get diaper doublers. They are basically diaper matieral in strips without all the tapes and all that. Or if you can get away with using cloth diapers in your diaper you can take toddler cloth diapers sold by Walmart and other places and fold them long ways in 3rds and put them in your diaper. 2 seem good for day time use and use 3-4 overnight to prevent leaks.
